Burt's Bees products are made from as many natural ingredients as possible; and most of the packaging is created from recycled materials, or is developed with recyclability and re-use in mind. Burt's Bees began with a 19th century book of home-made personal care recipes which together with advances of modern research, has them making the best natural personal care products out there to help you maximize your well-being.

Burt's Bees is proud that over 150 products are 99% natural on average with half being 100%! Still,they won't be satisfied until all of their  products are 100% natural and are currently aggressively pursuing this goal through reformulations and testing. To Burt's Bees the word "natural" means only one thing. It means "harvested from nature."

They use only natural colors in their products. Some of these include beta-carotene, chlorophyll, titanium dioxide and mica. These natural colors have been proven safe, unlike many artificial colors that have been banned by the FDA over the years. As far as fragrance components go, they use them only when absolutely necessary, and all of their fragrances are phthalate-free.

They never use nasty artificial preservatives like methyl paraben or diazolidinyl urea, which are potential toxins and endocrine disruptors, meaning they can adversely affect your hormone balance. Their products contain only gentle, natural preservatives, like those made from sugar enzymes, that both inhibit the growth of microorganisms and enhance product stability. Burt's Bees are proud to have developed a natural preservative for some of their water-based products (such as lotion) that mimics the defense systems found in the human body.
