The story behind Gayle Petrie Designs Maternity Wear and the new online store. Gayle Petrie Designs started in 1977 when Gayle was working and became pregnant with her first child and wished to continue working through her pregnancy (a fairly new concept at those times). Gayle's hobby was fashion and she always designed and made her own clothing. However, at 20 weeks pregnant she had her appendix removed and so went to buy some maternity clothes. She could not find any stylish maternity clothing and realised there was a need and thus started designing and making her own maternity wear which has developed a dedicated following.
Fashion has changed considerably since then but at Gayle Petrie Designs not only have we followed current fashion trends but, in fact, have led the way by making the finals of the RAQ fashion awards with our maternity wear in open categories (there are no maternity sections!) competing with high fashion designers such as Julie Tengdahl, Daniel Lightfoot, Anthony Lee Dower, Kristin Kavanagh, Debra Kolka and Michael Klease just to name a few.
Gayle's daughters Jemma and Cassie are now involved in the business and can share their recent pregnancy and maternity experiences after giving birth to their two baby boys, one in November 2008 and one in April 2009.
We design and manufacture high quality maternity wear that is stylish, practical, comfortable and affordable, encouraging women to look their best for their entire pregnancies. Looking your best will make your feel great which is important, especially throughout your pregnancy. Our variety of maternity styles allow you to choose fashionable clothes you would normally wear. We believe in making garments women will enjoy wearing throughout pregnancy and for the first weeks after the baby is born.
Gayle Petrie Designs Maternity Wear is now solely an online store. We have closed the retail shops in Brisbane, Queensland (after 30 years) but still continue to provide the great Stylish Maternity Clothing and Accessories at very reasonable prices for which we have become renown. We are also expanding our range of breast-feeeding clothes, including tops and dresses, which are much more fashion aware and in fact, in most cases, not readily recognised as nursing outfits!!!......they are so well disguised and fashionable....in particular have a look at the new "Boob" range of dresses.
You will still be able to get our exclusive maternity wear label as well as all the usual maternity brands that we have always carried, i.e Szabo, Pea in a Pod, Ripe, Ilant Swimwear, Anita and Lovable Lingerie, Boob & Glamour Mum Nursing Tops, Oi Oi Baby Bags; just to name a few.
